AKELA

Akela is our long-coated Siberian Husky (Embark pending). Her name comes from Akela, leader of the Seeonee wolf pack in The Jungle Book, and is associated with dignity, honour and leadership — a fitting name for the first of our breeding dams.

She has an open white mask and icy blue eyes, with particularly striking sectoral heterochromia in her left eye — a distinct section of rich brown creating a beautiful split of colour within the same iris.

Her father is KC registered Kenzduo Polar Express, giving Akela documented Siberian Husky lineage on her paternal side.

Akela is an incredibly affectionate and outgoing girl who greets just about everyone she meets as a friend. Naturally confident and sociable, she loves being around people and the rest of the tribe. She is also a complete water baby. She loves baths, paddling pools and swimming in the sea, and regularly accompanies me on the paddleboard along the Cornish coast.

WILDER

Wolf-Husky Hybrid | 13.6% Grey Wolf | 86.4% Siberian Husky

Wilder is the boy who began our Wolf-Husky journey. His name, meaning ‘wild’ and ‘untamed’, was chosen to reflect his wolf ancestry while tying him to the name at the heart of our story — Born Wild. Embark DNA testing identifies him as 13.6% Grey Wolf and 86.4% Siberian Husky.

Imported to the UK from Le Pacte des Loups in France, Wilder comes from established international Wolf-Husky lines. His father is Kodiak of Le Pacte des Loups, while his paternal grandfather is Bane, the well-known wolfdog of Wander With Willow in the United States. This lineage has travelled from North America, through France and now to Cornwall, where Wilder forms the foundation of our own Wolf-Husky lines.

Wilder has a long, woolly agouti (wolf sable) coat (Lh/Lh), a distinctive melanistic black mask, and icy blue eyes. Genetically aw/at, he expresses agouti while carrying the recessive allele for tan points.

Wilder is an incredibly sweet-natured and goofy boy. He can be naturally wary of strangers, preferring to observe and take his time before deciding someone is worthy of his trust. With his people, however, he is affectionate, playful and deeply attached.

NOVA

Nova joined our tribe a year later as Aura’s niece and companion, becoming one of the very few dogs Aura truly loves — and happily tolerates! Nova brings joy and laughter into every day with her goofiness, enthusiasm and complete love of life. She finds excitement in the smallest things, and there is something infectious about the way she experiences the world — a constant reminder to appreciate the little moments.

Nova is also a Utonagan, with Embark DNA testing identifying 63.0% Siberian Husky, 24.7% Alaskan Malamute and 12.3% German Shepherd ancestry. She has a dark sable coat with a dark mask and icy blue eyes. Genetically ay/aw, she expresses sable while carrying the allele for agouti.

Her name means ‘new’ and ‘bright star’, which evokes a sense beginning and wonder — perfectly reflecting the energy she brings into our lives.

Nova joins us on all of our adventures, and rarely strays far from Aura’s side. She is at her most confident when together with her pack. Where Aura is thoughtful and selective, Nova throws herself into life wholeheartedly. Together, they balance each other perfectly.

AURA

Aura came into my life after losing Kaia, at a time when I wasn’t sure I could ever share that same kind of bond again. She helped heal my heart and taught me that new bonds can grow alongside grief, without ever replacing what came before. Her name means ‘gentle breeze’ and ‘glowing light’, chosen for the comfort and light she brought into my life when I needed it most.

Aura is a Utonagan (wolf-alike breed), with Embark DNA testing identifying 59.2% Siberian Husky, 23.6% Alaskan Malamute, 11.3% German Shepherd and 5.9% Norwegian Elkhound ancestry. She has a homozygous agouti coat (aw/aw), open white mask, and icy blue eyes.

Aura is my soul dog and adventure companion, incredibly sensitive and deeply in tune with me. She is independent by nature and doesn’t give her affection freely; it has to be earned. To be chosen by Aura as her person is a privilege that I cherish.

From paddleboarding and camping to exploring new places and staying in cabins and treehouses together, Aura comes everywhere with me. Whatever the adventure, she is happiest by my side — and that is exactly where she belongs.

PAST & REMEMBERED

A place for those who have been part of the Born Wild journey — both those we have sadly lost and those who have since moved on to new homes and new adventures. Each has played a part in our story and will always remain part of the Born Wild family.

KAIA

I had dreamed of having a Husky of my own since I was 18 years old, after falling in love with the breed during a dog-sledding expedition for my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. When Kaia came into my life, she wasn't simply my first Husky — she was a dream I had carried with me into adulthood finally becoming real.

Her name meant ‘pure’ and ‘the sea’, chosen as she came into my world during a chapter of new beginnings, when I moved to Cornwall and began my Master’s degree in Conservation.

The connection between us was immediate. Kaia became my shadow and my soul dog. She followed me from room to room, always wanting to be beside me, and there was a quiet understanding between us that I find difficult to put into words. It was me and her against the world.

The beach was her favourite place — wind in her coat, sand on her nose. playing with seaweed fonds as though they were treasure. In the car, she would rest her paw or her head on my arm as I drove, always wanting a little point of contact between us. She filled my days with joy, companionship and purpose. Her presence was comfort. She was home.

On 20 December 2024, our world changed forever.

What began as an entirely normal day and a walk through the woods became the most traumatic day of my life. I found Kaia at the bottom of a tree, seizing. I remember screaming desperately for my Dad, checking that she wasn't choking and calling the vets as we raced through the woods to get back to the car.

I held her for the entire journey as we tore along the country roads towards the vets. Between the seizures, I could still see glimpses of my Kaia in her eyes and expressions, and I desperately held onto the hope that we could save her.

But the seizures wouldn't stop.

By the time we reached the vets, around twenty minutes had passed. They did everything they could for her, but too much damage had been done. At only five and a half months old, I lost my whole world.

That grief was indescribable and the trauma of that day has stayed with me ever since. For a long time, those final moments were difficult to separate from the memories of my special girl. But with time, I have learnt to choose the rest of her story instead.

Kaia had only five and a half months in this world, but those months were filled with freedom, adventure and every ounce of love I had to give her. If I had known from the beginning how our story would end, I would still choose her. Every single time.

While she never had the chance to grow up alongside the tribe that followed her, she shaped the path that led to Born Wild and will always be at the heart of its story.

She was my first Husky, my soul dog, and will forever be my why.
